Huuuuuge scam alert

It has been said over and over again that SMU is a huge scam. I did not believe it until I saw it with my own eyes. Less than 10% of your starting class will make it through the basic sciences. The reason why is that the exams are rigged. Most students with the exception of a "select few" have ridiculous exam questions from step 2 with portions of question stems removed. More so, some of the exam questions aren't even written in a proper sentence structure, since they remove parts of the original question without proofreading what is remaining of it lol. I can guarantee that you will fail this school unless if you bribe them or if you are somehow connected with the school. Please do yourself a favor and don't even dream about going here. And most success stories you hear about this school are from when it was run under a different administration. It's not even close at this point.

I'm not even advocating for any caribbean med school, but am speaking from the majority of my starting class's experience along with SMU upperclassmen. This school has done its students wrong, and I'm sure that there will be consequences for them. But until then, they will waste students time and extract them of their hard earned money. Most students are hundreds of thousands in debt from repeating semesters, and then the school fails them during the fourth semester anyway. In what world is that ethical? The odds of you becoming successful from investing 100k into this school is less than rolling dice on 100k.

How do you contact this school

Sent emails, called, filled out the online contact form to no avail. This's also true of a couple other schools. To me, either these school are receiving way too many applications that they do not really care to have more, or they just do not care period:mad:

Fraud Bribery and Corruption

Dear potential students: Don't waste your money and go here unless you have millionaire parents. This school is run on bribes from wealthy parents who will go to heck and back just to make sure their kids have the title of doctor.

Bottom line: You will fail out of the school in 2nd semester or 4th semester (twice) unless if you fork over > $100k in ransom/bribe("donation") on top of all tuition and fees. When you fail a class, they will mention the school being expensive and if you play along they WILL ask for ransom ("donation"). I won't give the exact amount they asked me to "donate", as to maintain my anonymity, as I'm sure the "donation" rate is variable.

Dear first/second semester students: If you scored below a 50 on ANY of your first or second block exams, pack your bags and go home, never look back. That score is a huge red flag indicator that they manipulated your grades and/or your exams.

Fact: Not all students have the same exam questions
Fact: NBME exams are sold here

If you fail a class the first time, they will act all nice and cuddly and act though its no big deal to get more tuition out of you. Don't fall for it. Take the loss for one semester and go back and apply to a US school (unless if your parents are loaded).

This school is on the verge of shutting down and the company R3 which owns them owns 2 other caribbean med schools. They are funneling the money from one school to another. Even the fafsa they claim they are approved for is for the other schools, and they illegally use that here. There are a huge number of lawsuits against the company. Unless if you have a crapton of money, you won't be able to afford the lawyer fees to fight a case against them.

SMU Alum are doing well

Hi Guys,
I visit this site once every year or so and came around it again today just to see some of these negative posts.

Come on, get real. Any Carib medical school is just that...a Carib medical school. They're not US schools. Yes, some have better rotation sites than others.
But the main point of it all is, just study your butt of for your Step 1 and 2, build some good connections during your rotations and land some good interviews.
I graduated /walked in May of 2008 and I know of plenty of students from my class and before who are doing very well in practice and are building solid careers.
I prematched into residency (actually was offered THREE different prematches). However prematches are a thing of the past as most hospitals are no longer doing that.

I myself am a FM residency trained physician who has been doing Emergency Medicine/ Hospital Medicine since graduation.
-Medical Director of an Emergency Department/ Hospital Medicine Department.
-Medical Director of a County EMS and am the Medical Director of EIGHT counties in the State where I live.
-Medical Director of a National ACO group of Hospitals.
-VP of my State's Academy of Family Physicians.
-Faculty at 2 Medical Schools in my State.

I'm not trying to brag, just wanted to you to see that you can do well even if you're an SMU alumnus. It doesn't matter if you want to Ross, AUC, SGU, SMU or wherever, just do well on the USMLE Steps 1 and 2, impress folks on your clinical rotations and build good connections and land good residency interviews. It's definitely NOT easy, but I will tell you it's VERY doable. I wasn't a gunner at SMU, but I got my work done and did decent on my boards.

No, I'm not a "fake student" or any other crap that I read on some of those forums. I'm just an SMU alum that wanted to remind those current and prospective students that it's definitely doable. I know the whole school loan situation is very different from when I was there, but if you can get through the semesters and stay the course, you're going to be fine.

Like I said, I don't log onto these forums very often and if you post a comment I probably won't see it for a while. If you want to PM me I might be able to reply but might not be super quick with the reply.

All the best!

This school is a TRAP. Don't go here. Don't listen to the success stories which pop up during the next 6 weeks. It's all propaganda by the school admins to get more people to fall for their scam.

Key Point 1: This school will intentionally fail out students before they even get to attempt the step 1. There is >90% chance this will happen unless if you can make generous cash-based donations. After 90% of students are gone, from whoever is left, over half of these students get dismissed before attempting to match. Now from whoever is left, the school counts who matches from this and still has to lie. Only 1/3 of whoever is left actually matches.
Key Point 2: On the island, the school picks and chooses who they pass and/or fail at their discretion by giving different students different exam questions.
Key Point 3: The school violates the NBME rules by theft of examination questions at the very least (and even selling them)

How someone can recommend this school is beyond me. Near the end of every semester, the potential students for next semester are underwhelming until a former success story pops up on this forum.

Note to admins: Tempt me and I'll go to NBME and show them the histo prof's "Take home concepts" pdf along with the leaked questions. They pretty much match up verbatim.

tl;dr : The entire school is run on bribery from people linked the first generation of alumni. Don't come here expecting to be a doctor. There's over a 90% chance you'll leave in financial ruins and a potential career obliterated. Take the proof from all the recent posts, not a first gen alumni from 11 years ago. If you have a hard time believing my post, just look up who owned the school 11 years ago and who owns it now. There's numerous threads from the past 5 years. A ton of them tell the SMU scam concept.

St. Matthews University is a Fraud

This university is not even a real university. ALL the numbers they tell you are a lie. Basically your entire class will fail out at one point or another. So many students fail classes like histology for no reason other than the school wanting students to repeat. Some students fail during semester 1, more in semester 2, and even more in semester 4. I would say over 90% of students fail out. Most seem to be pretty smart and hard-working but didn't want to jump through the hoops of getting into a US MD school. I feel the threads which tell you it will be fine are very misleading. Even the thread with the pictures of the campus and residence hall are very misleading. The residence hall is a very dull environment and very expensive with lack of proper internet to do any real studying. The campus is a very hostile and toxic environment in which they watch everything you do. From where you walk using security cameras to what you're browsing using wifi. They literally watch everything. This school should not even be a last resort unless if you know someone who went there. I feel those students are the only ones succeeding from this school. The staff is also known for doing very shady things with test questions and changing questions for different students.

the school is a complete fraud 100% confirmed. you'd need to be coughing up $20k+ every semester on top of tuition and fees just to be given a chance to pass. be extremely extremely careful. if you paid $500 deposit under pressure from the admissions lady, losing $500 is better than losing hundreds of thousands of dollars in student debt and finishing your career. and they will lie to you about the attrition rate. only less than 10% of students finish and from that 10% only 1 in 3 are able to get a residency. dozens of lawsuits are against the parent company R3 as well.

tldr: you'd literally have to be nuts to go here in 2019. school was different 10 years ago but it's a total scam now. save your money and wait to get into a real school.

They will intentionally fail you out during 4th semester or during comprehensive exam, unless if you have some sort of connection with the administration and you make arrangements before you begin your journey at SMU. When students do what the school is doing, it's considered cheating. Now, the school is giving an unfair disadvantage to students who don't make additional payments under the table, by screwing those students and giving them totally different exam questions. Be very very very cautious of these snakes before you make a mistake. These are corporate level con-men who don't give a rats behind about you. All they see is money. They're not legally entitled to federal funding they receive, but funnel it to them anyway through their other schools.
